On Monday, May 19, the Talent Business Alliance welcomed local entrepreneurs to the Bookkeeping Best Practices Workshop for Small Businesses, a free and practical session designed to help business owners gain clarity, confidence, and control over their finances.

Led by Maria Chunn from Mizzenmast Money & Mentoring, the event brought together small business owners from Talent and Phoenix for a hands-on evening at the Talent Community Center.

What We Covered:

Maria shared valuable insights drawn from over seven years of financial coaching and bookkeeping experience, specifically tailored to the unique needs of small businesses.

Key takeaways included:

  • Keeping business and personal finances separate to avoid confusion and ensure compliance

  • Understanding different transaction types and how they impact your books

  • Developing simple, consistent bookkeeping habits to stay organized year-round

  • Using your Profit & Loss Statement to make more strategic decisions

  • A bonus take-home checklist to help attendees organize their records and plan ahead

Who Attended:

This workshop was designed for small business owners with some experience using bookkeeping tools — especially those who may be unsure if they're doing it “right.” Whether attendees managed their own books or worked with accounting software, they left with actionable tools to improve their systems and reduce stress.

Thank You!

We extend our sincere thanks to Maria and all who attended. If you missed this session, stay tuned — the Talent Business Alliance is planning more educational events to support our small business community.

Until then, here’s to building better habits and a brighter financial future!
